Name Change Documents

Changing your name by Deed Poll or Statutory Declaration.

Once you have obtained you name change document, and had it witnessed in the case of a Deed Poll, or sworn in the case of Statutory Declaration, you may be wondering what to do with the name change document.

Firstly you should keep it in a safe place. Your name change document is legally binding and should be shown each time you need to prove your identity. There is no requirement for you to display or register the document with anyone.

The document will be accepted by all UK Government Agencies such as the Home Office Identity and Passport Service, HM Revenue and Customs and the DVLA. The document will also need to be shown to organisations such as your High Street Bank and the Post Office, as well as other organisations that you could be a member of such as your Union.

In short, you should keep the document safely and produce it only at those times it is needed to prove your identity.
